Our History

Way back on April 1st 2005, BDYO held its first ever rehearsal. The orchestra was set up for anybody in the local community aged between 9 and 21 no matter if they could play an instrument or not. Our aim was to encourage young people to play music in their local area and to be proud of it! Due to the ongoing success of the orchestra, a Saturday morning music school was set up to encourage new musicians as well as the more advanced. We established a beginner’s recorder ensemble and an advanced quartet ‘Billy’s B Flatters’ led by our woodwind tutor Will Carey. Within the first few months, BDYO had its debut performance and since then has played at various events including Staffordshire Moorlands Children’s Centre, Numerous Remembrance Services, The Royal Northern Collage of Music in Manchester and of course the orchestra’s own concerts held twice a year at Biddulph Methodist Church. In July 2007, BDYO was asked to attend an awards ceremony at Alton Towers and was awarded Runner Up in the category of Arts Group of The Year. The orchestra continues to grow as dose its reputation in the local community. The committee and musical team work tirelessly to help the orchestra in any way possible and the members always do their best at every opportunity.
